No doubt Windows Phone 7 jailbreak will open new doors for users to customize the device according to their own ways. The demandingly important feature for Windows Phone 7 users is  “multitasking“.

Update #2:  By all accounts, we’re within a few days of Apple’s official public release of Firmware 4.2.  Here’s what you need to know:

• Thanks to geohot’s limera1n exploit, and our original pwnage2 exploit, and @pod2g’s ipod2g-MC exploit, absolutely all devices at all iOS firmware versions are capable of being jailbroken.
• The untethered jailbreak of those very latest FWs and latest devices depends on @comex hacks.  His hacks so far extend only to 4.1 and 4.2beta3.  He’s working on a way to extend it to 4.2 and beyond.  Just wait for him to work out his method.
• iPhone 3G and 3GS unlockers will be covered by our upcoming unlock.  Stay away from any updates to Apple FW until our official release and you’ll be okay.  Just stay away from all Apple IPSWs :)
• iPhone4 unlockers are not left out in the cold.  @sherif_hashim has found some very promising avenues to pursue.  Those will be explored as soon as possible after all the 4.2 madness.

What does this mean to you?

• If you’re an unlocker, just stay where you are.  Please, just stay where you are. Any mistakes you make now may be permanent.
• If you only care about the jailbreak and you’re absolutely sure you have your personalized 4.1 SHSH hashes, feel free to experiment but keep in mind that any mistakes you make may result in your losing pictures or notes or bookmarks that you’d rather keep.  Honestly unless you love living on the bleeding edge, it’s better to just wait for official updates from Cydia/redsn0w/PwnageTool.
• Don’t buy or donate to any unlock or jailbreak scammers.  Every legitimate solution you will find for unlocks or jailbreaks will be offered without an extended hand.  That’s how the iPhone jailbreak/unlock community has succeeded.  It’s about freedom to do what you want with your $300 device —  not about donations, egos, tweets, or “interviews.”

I can guess that you have already saved the SHSH Blobs for iOS 4.1 and in case you are new to jailbreak and unlock or couldn’t find time to do so, here is the complete guide to save the SHSH Blobs on Cydia Server and on local storage with the help of TinyUmbrella.

However if you rely on unlock and don’t have any choice other than using PwnageTool, make it sure that you follow all the steps properly to burn the custom firmware.

The main reason of error 1600 is that users don’t put the idevice into DFU mode according to the instructions mentioned on the screen of PwnageTool during the restoration process.

Solution:

Solution is simple. Retry after putting the idevice into DFU mode properly. So, you should make it sure that you press the correct buttons in correct order and release the specific button after specific time to get into DFU mode and to avoid such problems.

Windows users are waiting for Snowbreeze 2.1 that cooks custom firmware without changing the baseband on Windows and Mac users are looking for PwnageTool.

We already knew that PwnageTool is almost ready because Geohot’s Limera1n exploit has been successfully ported into PwnageTool and moreover we have also seen a demo video of PwnageTool working on iPad.

On the other side iH8snow, the developer of Snowbreeze, has confirmed in a tweet that Sn0wbreeze 2.1 will support all idevices including iPod Touch 2G and newer version. The exact ETA is not announced by the developer.

Initially pod2g discovered this exploit to jailbreak the iPad but after the launch of JailbreakMe, which can jailbreak up to iOS 4.0, this project was closed. Now Apple has patched the hole in iOS 4.1 and again SHAtter exploit is being tested to develop next generation jailbreak.

p0sixninja just posted the whole story behind SHAtter exploit on iPhone WiKi which is now down due to heavy load. Fortunately we managed to save the document before the site went down and here is what p0sixninja says:

Vulnerability

In April 2010 pod2g wrote a USB fuzzer and tested every single USB control message possible on his iPod2,1. The fuzzer found 2 vulnerabilities: – a heap overflow caused by the A1,1 control message – a way to dump the bootrom using USB descriptors request
The team tested both PoC on new generation devices (iPhone2,1, iPod3,1, iPad) and both were already fixed by Apple.
posixninja continued the fuzzing on new gens and found that with a particular sequence of USB messages it was possible to dump the BSS+Heap+Stack (on new gens only). Having a memory dump is really helpful to make exploits and it was also the first time we had this kind of dump, previous bootrom exploits (ex: 24kpwn) were done blind!
Also, his first attempts to dump the memory resulted in rebooting the device. Interesting! We’ll see after that this reboot is the base of the SHAtter exploit.

Research

The research started and the main actor of this story is posixninja. He found why the device reboots and proposed different ideas to exploit this. posixninja also reversed tons of assembly code of the bootrom in this period, giving a support discussion to the team. We’re not talking about days, but months of work. So, major props to posixninja: SHAtter would not have been possible without the clever vulnerability he found and the research he did on the bootrom.
In the meanwhile, pod2g helped on the USB reversing side and found a way to have more control over the size of the USB packets sent. The finer-grained control of the packet sizes is the key of SHAtter.
posixninja and pod2g worked on exploiting the vulnerability for days. Every attempt was a failure because the idea to attack the stack and bypass the img3 control routines was just impossible. It took them weeks to understand why they failed and why they couldn’t exploit it this way.
They both gave up in July and focused on other subjects.

Step by Step Guide to Jailbreak iOS 4.1 with Snowbreeze 2.0.1:

Step 1: Download and install the latest version of iTunes.

Step 2: Sync and backup your iPhone’s all data like settings, contacts, photos, music and apps using the itunes.

Step 3: Download Snowbreeze 1.8 version and iOS 4.1 and keep them on your desktop.

Step 4: Open the snowbreeze and select the simple mode. If you want to enable multitasking, background wallpapers and battery percentage, select Expert Mode.

Step 5: Click the Browse button and select the iOS 4.1 firmware (currently available only for developers).

Step 6: If the firmware is correct, you will see the confirmation message. Now click Next to proceed.

Step 7: If you selected the Simple Mode, snowbreeze will ask if you want to activate (hacktivation) your iPhone. Click No if you are already using the supported carrier.

Step 8: Click Next and snowbreeze will create a custom firmware of iOS 4.1. The custom firmware will contain the word “snowbreeze” before the file name.

Step 9: Now to restore the custom iOS 4.1, connect your iPhone to iTunes. Click your device in the sidebar of itunes and press and hold the left “Shift button” on keyboard and then click on “Restore” button (not the “Update” or “Check for update“).

Step 10: You will be prompted for the location of custom firmware. Select the newly cooked firmware and proceed. Now sit back and let the snowbreeze work to complete installation.

Step 11: After the installation is completed, resync your all data and enjoy jailbroken iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.1.

Two high level Facebook employees, Joe Hewitt who is the key figure behind original Facebook app and Firefox, and Matthew Papakipos who was lead developer behind Chrome OS before leaving the Google for Facebook, are said to be working secretly on the project.

Techcrunch, a leading technology blog which broke the story first time says:

So what might this phone look and feel like? We don’t know yet. When will it be announced? Don’t know. But I’d speculate that it would be a lower end phone, something very affordable, that lets people fully integrate into their Facebook world. You call your friend’s name, not some ancient seven digit code, for example. I’d imagine Facebook wanting these things to get into as many hands as possible, so I’d expect a model at a less than $50 price. Pay your bill with Facebook Credits. Etc.

If all this is true and the project is completed successfully, this new Facebook OS and Facebook Mobile will be a perfect choice for teenagers and social network addicts as the company has gained a good reputation for social linkages, and we can expect good services and options in the OS for social media.

Vodafone Spokesperson told the BBC:

“We will roll out a vanilla version of 2.2,” a spokesperson told BBC News. The only thing we will change are the network settings to optimise them for our network.”

The spokesperson also told that the original Vodafone apps, known as Vodafone 360, will be offered as an optional download later on after the release of Vanilla.

It is to remind you that Froyo update released in May has got a lot of new features like HD video recording, tethering, exchange support, and support for Flash Player 10.1 for android.

Moreover, Google is already working on Android 2.3 also known as Gingerbread which will be released till the end of this year.
