Joanna Stern previewed the tablet in details in her post at thisismynext. According to Joanna, Samsung Windows 8 tablet was an Intel Core i5-powered tablet. It starts with a lock screen/welcome screen, with Metro-inspired text element. The lock screen shows you date, time, WiFi signal strength, battery time and notifications.

Though Microsoft showed Contacts, Calendar, eMail and a fancy PDF reader on the stage but none of them was installed on the tablet. It contained only Internet Explorer 10, RSS reader, stocks, weather and third-party twitter and Facebook clients.

Hardware:

While we got a look at the OS running on a few laptops and all-in-ones during the press preview meeting, we’ve spent most of the time testing the OS on the prototype tablet. Powered by a 1.6GHz Core i5-2467M processor and a 64GB solid state drive, the system is absolutely no slouch on performance — everything from scrolling in the browser to the Start screen is extremely speedy and the system boots incredibly quickly. However, fan noise is very noticeable, as is the heat coming out of the top vent, and a fast boot doesn’t excuse the slow wake-up times compared to ARM-based cellphones and tablets.

After the success of Windows 7, Microsoft is aiming for a better windows, the Windows 8. Well, its hard to guess for a better windows when you have the Windows 7 Ultimate.

According to global percentage, 56% of windows users are still using XP, 12% using Vista, and the 20% windows users have progressed on to Windows 7. But the noticeable thing is that, Windows 7 grabbed the first 10% at the end of 2010 only (it came out in the fourth quarter of 2010).  And it’s still rising at a great speed.

The official Microsoft building website for Windows 8 “Building Windows 8″ has been offering a stream of updates about the new Windows. These updates have accelerated since the past few days, which does not comes as a big surprise as the Microsoft company’s BUILD conference is known to be held in mid-September.

Steven Sinofsky, the President of the Windows and Windows Live division, addressed its users and said that the Windows 8 would be more user-friendly and equally attracting for both pc users, and tablet users.

“A lot of you have asked us whether Mango will support front facing cameras—and now that these HTC phones have been formally announced, I can confirm officially that Mango does support these. We’ve included support for ‘switching to FFC’ for photo/video shooting into the native camera experience and we’ve added API support to the application platform.”

The source of this news, has usually been correct in all of their claims when it specifically comes to Microsoft and its products. So according to the claim, its possible that Microsoft release just one beta of Windows 8 as late as September 2011 and after that, a RC build of Windows 8 will be released following which the operating system will finally enter RTM phase, presumably in April 2012.

Last year, Microsoft revealed that it would release Windows 8 in 2012. Now with the claim that RTM phase will begin in April 2012, Microsoft’s expected Windows 8 release timeframe can very easily be met. On the other hand, various betas of Windows 8 have already been leaked on the internet. While exact specifics of all the features of Windows 8 have not been known up till now, we’ve seen in the betas that Microsoft has greatly revamped the UI and is likely to introduce a Metro UI, the exact same which is found in Windows Phone 7 devices.

All previously released updates have also been made of Service Pack 1. Apart from tweaking built in apps of Office 2010 Word, Excel and Outlook this service also brings, to quote Microsoft “improvements in stability, performance, and in security”. SP1 allows you to open a file from SkyDrive straight in OneNote with the new Open from web feature. Office 365 support has been included in Outlook and improvements have been made to Excel.

So when Microsoft released Security Update, the phones which were updated by Walsh updater were throwing  a specific error code “80180048″. To resolve this issue and to make the update process smooth Chris Walsh has released another tool named as Walshed Phone Support Tool.

As screenshot shows, you just need to CAREFULLY select the right languages installed on your phone, and click “Continue”.  This will REPAIR your “Walshed” phone and put you back on the official update path.

Please download the  files that reflect your operating system.Once you’ve installed the Windows Phone Support Tools, extract the “Walshed” Phone Support Tool to a folder and execute WPST.exe.

Again, make sure you select ONLY the languages installed onto your device.  Once completed, try and update via zune, if it prompts you to update to 7392, great, if it doesn’t,  It means that update isn’t available for you just yet as your carrier hasn’t approved it.

WinRumors claims to have a screenshot of the error message screen, which is now black. The Blue Screen was present in early Windows 1.0 builds. But, properly introduced in Windows 3.0, and has been used ever since. Microsoft started using the color red for the error screens, in early builds of Vista. However reverted back to blue in later on.

This switch to a black error screen could be temporary, as WinRumors explains:

The switch to a Black Screen of Death could be a temporary one, similar to the switch in Longhorn build 5112. Microsoft has only ever used a Black Screen of Death in Windows 3.x when DOS-based applications failed to execute correctly. Microsoft typically uses Black screens when its operating systems are attempting to load following the power-on self-test (POST). The switch, noted by MyDigitalLife user canouna, is an interesting one and comes as Microsoft prepares its first beta copy of Windows 8 later this year.

In addition to the color change, Microsoft has also made the error message more user friendly. This would allow mainstream consumers to figure what the errors means, or at least understand what happened to their computer.

As you know Microsoft usually sets a time limit in pre-releases and beta-releases of software and following the same rule MS Windows 8 build 7850 can be run for 30 days only on one machine after getting it activated.

Though Windows 8 looks similar to Windows 7 at this stage but new code reveals many new features like Windows 8 App Store, Metro UI,  portable workspace and push notifications.

Folks at WinFuture got their hands on a leaked copy of Windows 8. It appears to be Windows 8 Build 7955, and early preview of Milestone 3.

The screenshots and video included reveal a revamped logon screen, a revised taskbar including a user icon, metro UI, ribbon interface, and several minor improvements. The video is embedded below, and additional screenshots can be seen at the gallery at WinFuture.
