The Samsung Galaxy S II debuted back in April 2011, and has made its way to the top of the smartphone market in a quite short time. In just 5 months, around 10 million of this Android have been sold.

Samsung Galaxy SII (Model: GT-I9100) has achieved 10 million global channel sales, doubling from five million in just eight weeks.

But here is when the main thing comes itself, is a 10 million amount an impact against the Samsung GS II’s rival the iPhone 4? Honestly, no! Because around 20 million iPhone 4 are sold every three months.

Though, you can consider this sale remarkable for a single Android Phone. And this number is sure to increase as the Samsung GS II is now available on Sprint, and will arrive on AT&T in October.

Now, the main thing to see is that, whether the Samsung GS II will still be on the top of smartphone industry after the arrival of the much awaited iPhone 5? Samsung is also preparing to fight against the upcoming iPhone 5, as it has just announced the Samsung GS II LTE HD version. It is a waiting game now, so lets see what becomes of this Samsung-Apple war in the gadget industry.

If you are a regular news reader, than you must know that just last week a military airplane crashed somewhere in Chile before losing all radio contact and resulting in the death of all the 21 passengers aboard. Well, there was no way left to find the plane except one, using the “Find My iPhone”. Though the position of the plane is not yet discovered, but it is certain that one of the passenger had an iPhone so the Navy should seriously consider this solution, as this feature would almost exactly tell the location of the iPhone before it lost signals.

“Find My iPhone” is a brilliant feature built-in the iOS 4.2, originally made to find lost or stolen iPhones and is free for all the iPhone users by simply signing up with their Apple ID.

So good to see Apple, the number-one US gadget company working for a good cause. Will it give a good impression, as Apple has suffered a bit of a drop in its market shares since the resignation of Steve Jobs? (via Redmondpie)

Kickstar is a most popular funding platform for creative projects. It has been a source of funds for some of the most top class projects in the world. Now, this new project is being called iEmu and is an open-source device emulator. It is not only creative but inspirational as well.

This iEmu project is proposed by Chris Wade, a veteran iPhone and PSP developer who found exploits for both devices in order to “jailbreak” them. His primary objective is to support the Apple A4 chip which is used in the iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G and the original first generation iPad. His project is based on QEMU emulator.

For those who dont know about QEMU,

QEMU is a generic and open source machine emulator and virtualizer.

When used as a machine emulator, QEMU can run OSes and programs made for one machine (e.g. an ARM board) on a different machine (e.g. your own PC). By using dynamic translation, it achieves very good performance.

When used as a virtualizer, QEMU achieves near native performances by executing the guest code directly on the host CPU. QEMU supports virtualization when executing under the Xen hypervisor or using the KVM kernel module in Linux. When using KVM, QEMU can virtualize x86, server and embedded PowerPC, and S390 guests.

For iEMU project, Wade is asking for about $20,000. The goal of this project according to Wade is:-

iEmu is an emulator based on the popular open-source emulator QEMU. The project’s primary goal is to implement support for the S5L8930 chipset, which is used in the iPhone 4 and the first-generation iPad. Since the specifications for this chipset and other supporting hardware used by Apple’s devices aren’t public, supporting these devices takes some heavy reverse engineering. This takes time and dedication, which is why progress so far has been slow. My new approach is to dedicate myself completely to this project and show the world the full potential of iEmu. 

Once iEmu is complete it will be possible to run it on Linux, Windows, Mac, mobile platforms such as Android, and even on iOS itself. It will act as a debugger for some, and perhaps will be a QA tool for others. It will also enable security experts to capture and analyze iOS malware in a sandboxed environment.

Now lets come to the second part, that even if Wade does accomplish his project, what would be the advantages?

• People not able to afford an iOS device would be able to use its apps on their devices running Windows, Linux or Android OS.
• And ofcourse, it could be used for security checking such as, security engineers could use an emulated version of iOS on Windows/Linux to find exploits and system flaws without putting their iPhone at risk.
• If you are not interested in iOS and just like its apps, so you could just use them on your preferered Windows/Linux or Android device.

Lets hope that Wade does get the funds, and accomplishes his project. Stay tuned for any more news on this topic.

Besides this hiring there are other two factors which point us to believe on this rumor. The first factor is Apple and the second one is Korean Government. Recently we came to know that Apple is going to abandon the Samsung Chips in next generation iPhone 5 and iPad 3 and that the Cupertino based company looking for new manufacturers to develop its own designed A6 chips. The second pressure comes from Korean government which wants Samsung to drop Android and focus on developing its own operating system with the collaboration of other Korean companies like LG.

HP has announced selling its PC business and scrap Web OS after the early rumors of Samsung buying a new Web OS came out. So most probably, Samsung is buying the WebOS from HP. While on the other side, DigiTimes claim that Samsung would be more interested in buying WebOS software, originally developed by Palm. Both Samsung, and HP are declining to comment on this issue.

Well, if acquisition is carried out, it would make Samsung stronger not only against Apple, but Google as well. Google too recently bought Motorolla  giving it a strong hold on the gadget industry.

Earlier this month, Google announced it will acquire Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. The deal gives Google access to Motorola’s extensive patent portfolio, but also puts the search giant into the hardware business, as Motorola is a significant manufacturer of Android-powered devices.

Since earlier this year, Apple and Samsung has been connected in a number of legal disputes, with the Cupertino, California-based company accusing the other of copying the iPhone and iPhone when designing its line of mobile devices. Now Samsung could also power its line of smartphones and tablets with the new WebOS and also “differentiate its Windows-based PC business.”

Comex is very popular among jailbreak community due to his JailbreakMe tool which provides untethered jailbreak on all idevices including iPad 2 running on iOS 4.3.3. Besides that, Comex also used some advanced techniques, like Unionfs, to develop JailbreakMe.

With unionfs (which was saurik’s idea originally), new files are created in the /var partition, and merged with files in the corresponding directories in the / partition, so no files need to be moved, no descriptors are invalidated, and I think the sandbox code won’t notice what happened. It also opens the door for upgrading the base operating system without destroying the jailbreak files (although maybe iOS 5 delta updates will already allow this? I haven’t looked at them yet).

Few weeks ago Forbes unmasked Comex as Nicholoas Allegra who loves Apple products and describes jailbreaking as “like editing an English paper… You just go through and look for errors. I don’t know why I seem to be so effective at it.”

This isn’t the first time Apple has hired from the jailbreak community. Earlier this year MobileNotifier developer Peter Hajas was picked up as an Apple summer intern. Unlike Hajas, however, Allegra has actually been responsible for some of the tools that have made jailbreaking possible on the iPhone.

When a user asked about the fate of JailbreakMe, Comex replied, “I’m hoping @MuscleNerd will make JailbreakMe 4. :P”.

The members of South African Revenue Service (SARS) Computer Forensics Lab, who were accompanying the Crime Unit, also seized goods of around R 100,000 (US $14000).

Various state of the art computers, circumvention software packages, jailbreak USB devices, PS3 consoles as well as hard-drives were seized during the raid. In addition documentation, fake PS2 games and original PS3 games, believed to be employed as master copies, were also seized.

The newspaper states that this is the first incident of this type where a PS3 jailbreaker is arrested. However there are no updates and reports whether Sony was involved behind this raid or not.

In January, 2011 Sony filed a lawsuit against Geohot, who is the most popular developer of jailbreak softwares among jailbreak community, for bypassing the effective technology measures employed by Sony on PlayStation 3. Later on the settlement between GeoHot and Sony was announced after four months of battle in courts.

It seems this arrest was made by South African Police itself after receiving some negative reports against the jailbreaker, without any involvement of Sony. The arrested person will appear today or tomorrow in the Johannesburg courts.

Step 1:

If you see any message, even from your friend, asking you to click on a link to enable video calling, don’t click it. Always use the official method to enable Video Calling on your account if it is still not available for you.

Step 2:

If you received such type of message from your friend, send him/her a message that he/she has been tricked. Guide him to remove Video Call or any such app from the app privacy settings.

Step 3:

If the message is not coming from your friend’s account, report it to Facebook Spam team by clicking on the cross arrow on the right-upper corner of the post.

Step 4:

Make it sure that you are still on Facebook before making any changes in Facebook privacy settings.

In short, Facebook Video Call is not an official application and you don’t need it to enable facebook video calling.

Among the updates that have been introduced in the new Skype 5.2 for Mac, there’s a new background video chatting control bar that has been added in the free version. If you’re willing to spend some dollars and get yourself the premium version, Skype 5.2 for Mac gives allows you group video chatting, group video and document sharing and 25% off a top HD webcam.

On the other hand, it was earlier last week when an alleged video promo of the official Skype for iPad app went live on YouTube momentarily. Looking at that video, it became hard to deny that a dedicated Skype app for the iPad is not in the pipeline.

Previously, there has been no optimized Skype app for the iPad. Ever since the iPad 2 was released with dual-cameras, Skype users have longed for a dedicated iPad app. We know that Skype for iPhone does work on the iPad, but its not optimized and isn’t that aesthetically pleasing that much as well.

From what we have heard up till now, the Skype for iPad app has been submitted to the App Store and is pending approval from Apple. As soon as the app gets approved, it will be live in the App Store for all of us to download at absolutely no cost. Let’s hope that Skype for iPad drops today.

The news originated from Thisismynext, which shows a scanned image of a court document that clearly states Samsung’s reciprocity. Previously, Apple had demanded to see Samsung’s unreleased products. The Koreans have merely reciprocated now.

Samsung claims that it needs to see Apple’s future products because devices like the Droid Charge and Galaxy Tab 10.1 will presumably be in the market at the same time as the iPhone 5 and iPad 3, and Samsung’s lawyers want to evaluate any possible similarities so they can prepare for further potential legal action from Apple. It’s ballsy, but it’s not totally out of the blue..

Basically, Apple sued Samsung claiming that it had copied various design and UI elements in its Galaxy lineup which consists of handsets and the Galaxy Tab. The reason why Samsung wants to see Apple’s future products is because they want to avoid any future incidents of this nature.

However, it is possible that Apple will only allow Samsung’s legal team to see the next generation iPhone and iPad. The manufacturing team would already have an idea of what Apple is going to introduce because we must not forget that Samsung is a component supplier for Apple. Will Apple comply to this demand? That, time will tell.
