How to Downgrade iPhone 3.1 to 3.0.1

We have already warned that new iPhone Software 3.1 is not yet jailbreakable or hackable. The dev-team has suggested that we should wait for 1-2 weeks so that they upgrade their tools to jailbreak and unlock new iPhone software 3.1.

However if you have upgraded your iphone to latest software, here is step by step tutorial to downgrade iPhone software from 3.1 to 3.0.1.

Step 1:

Download and install the latest version of iTunes 9.

Step 2:

Download iPhone Software 3.0.1 for your relevant iPhone ( iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G , iPhone 2G ). These softwares will be in .ipsw format.

Step 3:

Now copy the downloaded .ipsw files in the following locations of your system.

Mac OS X: “~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates”
Windows 7: “\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates”
Windows Vista: “\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates”
Windows XP: “\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates”

Step 4:

Connect your iPhone with your PC and start the iTunes 9, and keep pressed Shift key and click on restore.

Select the firmware 3.0.1  you just downloaded for your iPhone. You may receive errors like:

The iPhone “your iPhone” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred. (1015)

Ignore these types of errors, continue the procedure and close iTunes. Your phone will now be in recovery mode, showing iTunes logo and usb connector.

Step 5:

Start QuickPwn 2.2-1 and follow the on-screen procedure to reset your iPhone. Close QuickPwn and start iTunes again with original AT&T sim card and check the new firmware version. I hope it will have been changed to 3.0.1. Now you can also jailbreak your iPhone.
