We’ve already seen concept Nokia Windows Phone devices, and they really look good. Now the company has said it will definitely ship one Windows Phone device in the fourth quarter of 2011.

CEO Nokia Stephen Elop said:

Strategy transitions are difficult. We recognize the need to deliver great mobile products, and therefore we must accelerate the pace of our transition. Our teams are aligned, and we have increased confidence that we will ship our first Nokia product with Windows Phone in the fourth quarter 2011.

While we’re yet to see what exactly Nokia is going to do with its Windows Phone device, one thing is for sure. Nokia with its widespread reach in the market, is going to put Microsoft’s signature mobile platform in the hands of millions of consumers who look for mid-range smartphones. Hence Windows Phone will have an increased share in the market.

Let us hope that Nokia stays true to its claims and that we see a Windows Phone Nokia device no later than the end of 2011.

Less than 24 hours have gone by since Nokia’s CEO and Microsoft’s CEO shook their hands to bring a blend of Microsoft’s software and Nokia’s hardware but we already have some prototype images of next generation Nokia Phones, which will be empowered by WP 7 OS, floating around the web.

First posted by Engadgets, these images clearly show what we are going to have in our hands in near future.

However, as the title of this post says these are conceptual pictures and it doesn’t mean the exact same type of Nokia Windows phones will be manufactured and handed over to customers.

But, the best part of this reveal might be that it confirms Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s statement that the engineers of both the companies have spent a lot of time on cooking something delicious …. like this.

Nokia outlines new strategy, introduces new leadership, operational structure

London, UK – Nokia today outlined its new strategic direction, including changes in leadership and operational structure to accelerate the company’s speed of execution in a dynamic competitive environment.

Major elements of the new strategy include:

- Plans for a broad strategic partnership with Microsoft to build a new global mobile ecosystem; Windows Phone would serve as Nokia’s primary smartphone platform.
- A renewed approach to capture volume and value growth to connect “the next billion” to the Internet in developing growth markets
- Focused investments in next-generation disruptive technologies
- A new leadership team and organizational structure with a clear focus on speed, results and accountability

“Nokia is at a critical juncture, where significant change is necessary and inevitable in our journey forward,” said Stephen Elop, Nokia President and CEO. “Today, we are accelerating that change through a new path, aimed at regaining our smartphone leadership, reinforcing our mobile device platform and realizing our investments in the future.”

Nokia plans to form a strategic partnership with Microsoft to build a global mobile ecosystem based on highly complementary assets. The Nokia-Microsoft ecosystem targets to deliver differentiated and innovative products and have unrivalled scale, product breadth, geographical reach, and brand identity. With Windows Phone as its primary smartphone platform, Nokia would help drive the future of the platform by leveraging its expertise on hardware optimization, software customization, language support and scale. Nokia and Microsoft would also combine services assets to drive innovation. Nokia Maps, for example, would be at the heart of key Microsoft assets like Bing and AdCenter, and Nokia’s application and content store would be integrated into Microsoft Marketplace. Under the proposed partnership, Microsoft would provide developer tools, making it easier for application developers to leverage Nokia’s global scale.

With Nokia’s planned move to Windows Phone as its primary smartphone platform, Symbian becomes a franchise platform, leveraging previous investments to harvest additional value. This strategy recognizes the opportunity to retain and transition the installed base of 200 million Symbian owners. Nokia expects to sell approximately 150 million more Symbian devices in the years to come.

Under the new strategy, MeeGo becomes an open-source, mobile operating system project. MeeGo will place increased emphasis on longer-term market exploration of next-generation devices, platforms and user experiences. Nokia still plans to ship a MeeGo-related product later this year.

In feature phones, Nokia unveiled a renewed strategy to leverage its innovation and strength in growth markets to connect the next billion people to their first Internet and application experience.

New leadership team, operational structure
This new strategy is supported by significant changes in Nokia’s leadership, operational structure and approach. Effective today, Nokia has a new leadership team with the commitment, competencies and innovative thinking needed in today’s dynamic environment.

The Nokia Leadership Team, previously the Group Executive Board, will consist of the following members: Stephen Elop, Esko Aho, Juha Akras, Jerri DeVard, Colin Giles, Rich Green, Jo Harlow, Timo Ihamuotila, Mary McDowell, Kai Oistamo, Tero Ojanpera, Louise Pentland and Niklas Savander.

Alberto Torres has stepped down from the management team, effective February 10 to pursue other interests outside the company.

The renewed governance will expedite decision-making and improve time-to-market of products and innovations, placing a heavy focus on results, speed and accountability. The new strategy and operational structure are expected to have significant impact to Nokia operations and personnel.

New company structure
As of April 1, Nokia will have a new company structure, which features two distinct business units: Smart Devices and Mobile Phones. They will focus on Nokia’s key business areas: high-end smartphones and mass-market mobile phones. Each unit will have profit-and-loss responsibility and end-to-end accountability for the full consumer experience, including product development, product management and product marketing.

Smart Devices will be responsible for building Nokia’s leadership in smartphones and will be led by Jo Harlow. The following sub-units now in Mobile Solutions will move under Smart Devices:
- Symbian Smartphones
- MeeGo Computers
- Strategic Business Operations

To support the planned new partnership with Microsoft, Smart Devices will be responsible for creating a winning Windows Phone portfolio.

Mobile Phones will drive Nokia’s “web for the next billion” strategy. Mobile Phones will leverage its innovation and strength in growth markets to connect the next billion people and bring them affordable access to the Internet and applications. The Mobile Phones unit will be led by Mary McDowell.

Markets will be responsible for selling products, executing compelling marketing and communications, creating a competitive local ecosystem, sourcing, customer care, manufacturing, IT and logistics across all Nokia products. It will be headed by Niklas Savander.

Services and Developer Experience will be responsible for Nokia’s global services portfolio, developer offering, developer relations and integration of partner service offerings. Tero Ojanpera will lead the Services and Developer Experience unit in an acting capacity.

NAVTEQ, an integral part of Nokia’s location and advertising business, will be headed by Larry Kaplan, and continue as a separate reporting entity.

The CTO Office will be responsible for Nokia’s technology strategy and forward-looking technology activities, including Nokia Research Center. It will be headed by Rich Green.

Design, responsible for Nokia product and user experience design, will be led by Marko Ahtisaari.

The CFO Office, responsible for all financial activity, will be headed by Timo Ihamuotila.

Corporate Development, responsible for driving implementation of Nokia’s ecosystem strategy and strategic partnerships, will be headed by Kai Oistamo.

Corporate Relations & Responsibility, responsible for Nokia’s government and public affairs, sustainable development and social responsibility, will be led by Esko Aho.

Human Resources will be led by Juha Akras.

Legal and Intellectual Property will be led by Louise Pentland.

Nokia Siemens Networks continues in the Nokia Group as a separate reporting entity.

The above picture is cropped from a video and it could be the upcoming Nokia N9. The name “N9″ was initially spotted in an image and it was believed that N9 would be a MeeGo based mobile phone.

Till now we don’t have enough info about this gadget but we hope there will be more confirmed news in the coming days.

Today Nokia has announced a new X-series phone “Nokia X5-01” at Nokia Connection in Singapore. This phone is especially designed for quick messaging and social networking. Besides the other standard functions, two new features have been added in this phone:

• If you shake the phone, you will hear the number of SMSes in the inbox.
• And if you spin the phone while playing the music, a random song is selected via “Surprise Me” which is a new feature added in this phone.

We have already got some rumors that the Finnish company is working on new phones like C7, E7, X7 and N9 but today Nokia disclosed X5 phone based on a little old S60 3rth edition symbain platform.

Nokia X5-01 will be available in different colours like blue, pink, green and black.

The other specs include:

• 5MP camera with LED flash
• 200MB internal memory
• 2GB microSD card included and it can support upto 32 GB.
• 16 days standby time and 24 hours music playback

Nokia X5 would be priced at 160 Euros.

Nokia has just announced a new low-cost mobile phone Nokia 5228 which is based on symbian S60 5th Edition operating system. This phone looks like Nokia 5800 and Nokia 5230 and I don’t see much difference in the design of these phones.

If you compare the specifications of 5230 and 5228, Nokia 5228 does not have GPS. Nokia 5228 is 3.2″ touch screen phone with 2 megapixel camera, 3.5mm audio jack and 33 hours of music playback.

I don’t understand what is the purpose of Nokia in releasing this S60 5th edition phone while the similar phones are already available. It is to be noted Nokia is already working on Symbian^4, and this low-priced phone based on old version of symbian indicates only one thing that Nokia wants to increase its market share with low priced phones.

Nokia C1-00

Finally Nokia has decided to manufacture dual SIM mobiles. In a press release Nokia unveils four new C series phones. Nokia C1-00 is 2-in-1 double SIM solution, C2-00 is dual SIM phone and C1-01 and C1-02 are single SIM phones.

Nokia C1-00:

Nokia C1 supports two SIM cards but you can keep only one SIM active at a time. However you can switch between two SIMs with a single click. It is especially useful for those who travel in different countries and for those who want to take advantage of reduced call rates.

Nokia C1-00 is priced at EUR 30 before taxes and subsidies and it will be available at the end of the fourth quarter of 2010.

The battery time has also been improved for this phone. You will get upto six weeks standby battery time. Standard flashlight and an FM radio is also present in the phone.

Nokia C2-00:

In this phone you can keep both SIMs active at the same time and you can get calls and SMSs from both SIM cards. One SIM sits under the battery and another is “hot-swappable”, a new feature introduced by Nokia. This means you don’t need to turn off your phone to change the SIM.

Nokia C2-00 will be preloaded with Ovi Life Tools and Ovi Mails via Nokia messaging. FM radio and Music player are also present for music lovers.

This phone can support upto 32 GB micro-SD.

These both phones are single SIM products. They support Nokia Messaging and web browsing via GPRS. FM radio and built-in VGA camera are also present in these phones.

Last week a new version of firmware for Nokia N900 was  released with many new features and improvements. One feature is the option to enable portrait mode in your browser. Be default this option is disabled.

Nokia has already announced its first Symbian^3 based N8 phone and it might be released in the next month. But there are reports that the first symbian^3 device will be a non-nokia.

According to an interview, Lee Williams, executive director of the symbian foundation, unveiled that the first symbian^3 loaded handset will be from an asian vendor. Unfortunately he declined to disclose the name of the vendor :).

Symbian 3 is almost completely mature. There is a small share of code which is pending checking by its contributors, Williams said in an interview.

He also said, “By first quarter 2011 I would expect to have very mature Symbian 4. We are heavily dependent on Nokia’s development efforts”.

On the other hand we have rumours that Samsung is working on new Samsung Omnia HD2 i8920 which will be running on Symbian^3.

The leaked specifications of Omnia HD2 i8920 are:

• 4 inch super AMOLED display
• 12 megapixel camera
• Bluetooth
• WiFi
• 16 and 32 GB internal storage

Omnia HD2 will be able to shoot 720p video at 30-frames per second. Though no release date of HD2 has be rumoured but it might come before Nokia’s N8.
