Today Nokia has announced a new X-series phone “Nokia X5-01” at Nokia Connection in Singapore. This phone is especially designed for quick messaging and social networking. Besides the other standard functions, two new features have been added in this phone:

• If you shake the phone, you will hear the number of SMSes in the inbox.
• And if you spin the phone while playing the music, a random song is selected via “Surprise Me” which is a new feature added in this phone.

We have already got some rumors that the Finnish company is working on new phones like C7, E7, X7 and N9 but today Nokia disclosed X5 phone based on a little old S60 3rth edition symbain platform.

Nokia X5-01 will be available in different colours like blue, pink, green and black.

The other specs include:

• 5MP camera with LED flash
• 200MB internal memory
• 2GB microSD card included and it can support upto 32 GB.
• 16 days standby time and 24 hours music playback

Nokia X5 would be priced at 160 Euros.

Why I like Symbian? In symbian based mobile phones when you install an app or game, you are asked about the storage location. You can select either phone memory or you can install all your apps on SD Card to save the space of phone for other functions. But android’s new version is one step ahead now.

In android 2.2 aka froyo you can move the installed apps and games from phone to memory card and vice verse. Ah! Symbian phones won’t allow you to move your apps/games from one location to another.

Currently few android apps, which support latest Froyo, can be moved between two storage spaces but more apps will be updated soon as soon as the developers get used to new android version 2.2.

Follow these simple steps to move / to know whether the app can be moved or not.

A. Open Settings -> Applications ->Manage Applications and tap on the app you want to move.

B. Tap on the box “Move to SD card”.

C. Now tap on “On SD Card” to know whether your app has been moved or not.

You can also move back the app to phone memory by tapping on application and then selecting “Move to Phone” option.

Fring development team has released a new version of Fring for symbian mobiles. This version is being claimed more user friendly than the previous ones.

There are three important changes in version 4.3:

• Now you can find more friends easily with new fring’s automatic friends finder.
• Fring can add all those fringsters, who are already in you phone book, into your fring buddy list to chat, call and video-call.
• You can now create your complete profile at the step of registration.

Apart from these major changes many bugs are fixed in this update.

Pankaj and Rohit Yadav et al are working to bring the VLC media player to symbian platform. Currently they have achieved some basic goals but still it is under development.

VLC Player is one of the popular freeware media player which supports a lot of video and audio formats. According to the roadmap for VLC, which is currently named as MHSVLC but it may be changed in future, the app will be based on Python. Initial attempts were made using the Qt but now Python language is also being used to get better performance.

The VLC app for mobile is not available for testing or download. However, if you want to contribute in this project, you can give your suggestions and feedback here.

There are different ways to access Google Buzz on your phone. But the web app for Google Buzz gives the complete control over posting and viewing the buzzes.

If you visit the official page of Google Buzz for Mobile, you will see that only two types of phones (iPhone and Android 2.0+) can enjoy the full features of Google Buzz Web App. However if you are using Symbian or Windows Mobile based mobile, you can not access the Google Buzz page with the official URL buzz.google.com.

I also tried many times to access the google buzz on my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and entered different URLs like www.google.com/m/buzz , m.gogle.com/buzz , etc but failed.

Then I searched the internet and found a URL that could be used to access the Google Buzz on unsupported devices. I tried it on Nokia 5800 and it worked flawlessly. While accessing the Google Buzz Mobile with this address, you can use all the features of Google Buzz as the iPhone users do.

If you enter this address https://m.google.com/app/buzz, you will see the following page. Ignore the warning and tap on “Continue on Unsupported Device”.

However if you don’t want to see this warning message, enter this address in you mobile browser:

You can bookmark the current address to access it with one click and without seeing the unsupported warning page.
