As you know whenever you connect your device with iTunes after Apple releases a new firmware, you get a pop-up message reading that a new software is available for your device provided your device is still on older iOS version. But when you update your device to this latest firmware, you lose the jailbreak ability on your device until iPhone Dev Team updates its existing jailbreak tools or develops a new tool to jailbreak that specific firmware.

The same case is with iOS 4.3.4 firmware. If you install iOS 4.3.4 on your device, you will lose the jailbreak ability. Now all you can do is either to wait for a new jailbreak, which might take a long time to come, or to downgrade to previous iOS firmware which is only possible if you have already saved the SHSH blobs for the firmware to which you are downgrading. But if you have not saved the blobs and want to keep your device jailbroken, you are advised to use the below mentioned simple trick that prevents iTunes from showing any update message. This trick will make iTunes to think that your device is running on iOS 4.3.4.

Step 1: Download iFile from Cydia Store.

Step 2: Go into System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist and open the file in Text Viewer.

Step 3: Tap on Edit button present on top left side.

Step 4: Change 4.3.3 to 4.3.4 and 8J2 to 8K2 and tap on Save button.

Step 5: Reboot your device.

Now connect your device with iTunes and you won’t receive any update warnings.

However after applying the update many users, esp those having Samsung WP7 phones, reported that their devices had gone into unusable state.

Bricked devices instruct them to connect the phone to a PC, but connecting the device to PC and even hard-resetting does not appear to solve the problem.

Microsoft is already aware of this problem and is instructing the users not to update the device until a new update is pushed, which is rumored to be released within next few days.

How to Fix the Bricked Windows Phone 7?

In case you have applied the update and now your device is not responding at all, you can try this handy guide posted by a user at Neowin forum.

• Unplug USB form computer. Charge phone or put in charger.
• Turn off phone.
• Turn on phone using 3 buttons – power, camera and volume up/down rocker. Keep all 3 held for 10-15 seconds. Do not release when it asks if you want to format the SD card.
• Keep holding until it says “download mode”. This will reinstall the OS.
• If phone does not reboot in 15 mins just power it off and back on.
• Re-setup phone, update firmware through Zune software and then re-sync your documents, music, pictures, videos, etc

Even after following the above mentioned tips your device is not getting life, you can return your phone to stores to get it exchanged as suggested by Windows Phone Support team over twitter.

Before the release of Android 2.3 many users were expecting that Google Nexus One will be the first device to get this new update but Google took almost three months to release this update.

Google nexus one which is already running on Android 2.3 will also receive the update, according to official Google Nexus Twitter account.

Google Nexus: Gingerbread (android 2.3.3) now rolling out to Nexus S and Nexus One. Be patient, may take a few weeks to complete.

The official changelog for Android 2.3.3 is not available yet, but according to some sources it fixes reboot problems on Nexus S, brings more NFC goodies and removes facebook data integration.

Step 1: Download and install iTunes 10.1 Beta 2.

Step 2: Download the right gold master build of iOS 4.2 for your idevice.

Step 3: Open the iTunes and connect your phone via USB.

Step 4: Hold down the Alt button (Shift in case of Windows) and click on the restore button.

Step 5: When asked for firmware file, point the iTunes to the downloaded iOS 4.2 file.

Step 6: Wait for 15 – 30 minutes and let the iTunes to finish its work.

Once update is complete, restart your phone and enjoy the iOS 4.2 features.

There is one more news. Ovi Music Store is now accessible right from your Nokia n900 where it is available. You can use your inbuilt browser to go to music.ovi.com and download your favourite songs in DMR-Free format.

N900 can be updated to PR 1.3 with different methods. The easiest one is via OTA (over-the-air) update.

1. Select the status area and New updates.
2. Select Update all, or select the packages to install and Continue.
3. Confirm the installation.

Apple has released the Global Master Candidate of its new iOS 4 for developers and the public version will be released on June 21. Now the question might come in your mind, “Why should I update my iPhone/iPod OS to latest iOs4?”. The new iPhone OS 4 aka iOS 4 has got a lot of features which we have covered in our this post.

Installing iOS 4 is very simple and here is the procedure. You will need the iTunes 9.2 which is currently available for Mac users only (Update: now available for windows users too) and iOS 4 for your iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 3G and / or iPod touch 2G. iTunes 9.2 is not yet available for windows users but its release is being expected on June 21 for Windows.

• Download the latest iTunes 9.2 beta and install it on your Mac machine (iTunes 9.2 is out of beta now and available for windows too)
• Download the IPSW file of iOS 4 and save on your PC.
• Connect your iPhone with Mac using iTunes.
• Click on your device on the left sidebar of itunes.
• Now keep pressed ALT button and click on restore button in iTunes and find the IPSW file which you downloaded earlier. Make it sure that you restore your iDevice instead of update.
• The whole process will take 12-20 minutes.

It is highly recommended that you backup your iPhone before the update process. Some users find the pictures missing after update, try restoring the backup.

Already discussed how you can update the firmware of your symbian mobiles like N97, 5800, N79 etc and different methods of hacking and debranding your symbian mobiles, but this time I am sharing the method to update the firmware/flash your maemo device like nokia N900, N800 etc.

Why to Update Firmware?

The question is why we should update the firmware of our maemo device? There are many reasons to it like:

• Bug fixes in new firmware
• Stability and improvement in new firmware
• You have corrupted the software of your device
• A virus has corrupted it, though it is very rare if you take little care
• Introduction of new feature in the firmware
• And sometimes for debranding

Methods of Firmware Update:

There are three common and easy methods of updating the firmware of N900.

1. Via Nokia Software Updater:

It is easy and most recommended method to upgrade the firmware of maemo device. If there is new firmware update is available, this is the recommended way to do it. You can see more details here how to update using NSU.

2. Manual Method using Flasher:

Here I want to explain the manual method of flashing your device. This method is recommended if you are reinstalling the same/latest (but not the newest which will be available through NSU only) firmware which you have already on your device.

Step by Step Method of Flashing using Flasher:

This method is windows based method (esp XP), but if you have got other operating system (Mac or Linux), you can get a link, read here the detailed procedure for Mac.

• Download and install the latest version of Flasher (e.g. maemo_flasher-3.5_2.5.2.2.exe).
• Download the latest firmware (.bin) file and save to ‘c:Program Filesmaemoflasher-3.5′
• Hot Update: If you want to update your N900 to latest firmware, read the details here.
• Hot Update 2: The details about latest firmware 1.2 can be found here.
• Fully charge the battery.
• Unplug charger and switch off the device.
• Open the command prompt on XP. Start + Run. Type cmd and press Enter.
• Change directory to the flasher program

 cd "c:Program Filesmaemoflasher-3.5"

• Connect the USB cable while pressing ‘u’ key on the N900 (The detailed procedure of connecting the N900 is here).
  1. Turn off Maemo device
  2. Press and hold down key ‘u’
  3. Connect USB cable between Maemo device and host PC while holding down key ‘u’
  4. When USB cable gets connected it powers Maemo device and set’s it to flashing mode
  5. When USB icon appears on right upper corner Maemo device is in flashing mode
  6. You can release key ‘u’
• Run the following command:

flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.42-11_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R

The update will take about 4 minutes after which the N900 will reboot and display the Welcome screen with Regional settings.

You may experience problem if you are running windows seven/vista. You will have to flash the device in xp mode under Seven x64 and it will work perfectly.

3. via Seamless Software Update (SSU):

This method is same as FOTA (firmware over the air) in symbian mobiles, but it has been named as Seamless Software Update (SSU).

Your N900 will notify you of an update when one becomes available, just as it does for application updates. You may initiate the update process immediately or, if you prefer, ignore it for the moment and wait until your phone is, say, fully charged and on a good WiFi connection.

The process is:

1. A blinking notification–the same as appears when application updates are available–appears in the status area of your N900.
2. Tapping the notification opens the Application Manager which automatically shows the available update. (Should you decide to hold off on installing the update for any reason–busy, low battery, on expensive data connection, etc.–you can close Application Manager. The SSU will remain waiting in the “Update” area of Application Manager until you’re ready.)
3. Tap the update to begin the download and installation process.
4. Your N900 will prompt you to make a new backup of your data and settings just in case. Making a backup may be skipped, should you want to throw caution to the wind.
5. Your N900 will close all open applications.
6. Your N900 will download the update.
7. Your N900 will automatically install the update.
8. Your N900 may reboot.
9. Done.
