From unlocking perspective the important thing in iOS 4.0.1 released for iPhones (iphone 4, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS) is there is no baseband change and you can unlock you iDevice with ultrasnow. However, currently we can unlock only iPhone 3G because there is no jailbreak software available for iPhone 4 and the jailbreak tool for iPhone 3GS is still under development to support the firmware iOS 4.0.1.
iOS 4.0.1 has been released for iPhones only (iphone 4, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS) but only iPhone 3G can be jailbroken with Redsnow 0.9.5. The users of iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS will have to wait for new/update jailbreak tool. Again, this guide is only for iPhone 3G and don’t try to use it on other idevices.
Apple released a new firmware iOS 4.0.1 for iphones only with a minor change in the formula to determine signal strength. No more changes are announced officially. This update has changed the size of signal bars to display on iphone. Now the first three bars look taller. Earlier many users reported that they are getting poor service after they upgraded to iOS 4.0.
Apple has released iOS 4.1 beta for developers with many improvements. One of changes in new beta is improved signal bar display on iPhone. In spite of bug fixes in this beta firmware, you can still jailbreak your iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G with the latest version of Redsnow using a simple trick. This jailbreak is especially useful for those developers who develop apps for jailbroken iphones and iPods. It is to be noted that you can not unlock iOS 4.1, so its important for you to stay away from this jailbreak until iPhone Dev Team released the official tools.
iPhone 3G jailbreak on iOS 4.1 beta can be done with redsnow 0.9.5 beta 5. It is to be noted that if you update you iPhone 3G to iOS 4.1, redsnow will not be able to hacktivate it. If you have access to developer account and are not bothered about the unlock, you can proceed to jailbreak iPhone 3G on iOS4.1.
Apple has released the expected new iOS 4.1 beta firmware for developers and to our joy Redsnow 0.9.5 beta 5 can be used to jailbreak this new version on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G (non-MC). iOS 4.1 beta includes change to the formula for calculating the signal strength bar, besides other changes, but it might not resolve the reception/antenna issues completely.
Yesterday planetbeing, one of iPhone Dev Team Members, confirmed that iPhone 4 has been unlocked and the new rewritten unlocking software will be released soon. But on the other side the old fellow of Team, geohot, announced its early retirement and said “Goodbye” to iPhone unlocking and jailbreaking.
Geohot is a name which doesn’t need any introduction. He is the pioneer in jailbreaking and unlocking the iPhone. Initially he developed a hardware based unlocking technique and on Feb 8, 2008 he developed the first software based unlocking tool for the iPhone’s new Bootloader 4.6 version. In his recent tweet he says:
Recently Apple introduced its new iPhone 4 running on the latest iOS 4 with many new features. Many buyers who are using this new phone have complained about some reception issues. Though the Apple CEO has told us that we are not holding it in the right way, however Peter Morgan has posted the image of new iPhone version i.e., iPhone 5 with improved reception.
