iREB 4.1 is now available to download for Windows and Mac users. iREB lets you to put your idevice into a pwned state so that you can upload the custom firmware to the device.
Snowbreeze has just been released and now available to download for Windows Users. This version works on all idevices i.e., iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch running on iOS 4.1 (iOS 3.2.2 for iPad) and beyond.
Moreover this version is also compatible with all iPhone and iPod models namely iPhone 3GS old bootrom, iPhone 3GS New Bootrom, iPod Touch 3G (both MC and Non-MC), iPod Touch 4G and iPod Touch 2G.
iH8snow, the developer behind snowbreeze, has just tweeted that you can use Snowbreeze for iOS 4.2 only if you have already saved the SHSH Blobs for iOS 4.1 and beyond if you are on previous iOS version.
iPhone Dev Team members, esp Jay Freeman and Chpwn, are working hard to bring out the final version of Cydia Store that will support iOS 4.2 too. According to a tweet by MuscleNerd, the revamped Cydia app is almost ready.
It is to remind you that Apple has already rolled out iOS 4.2 GM release and iPhone Dev Team may delay the release of Cydia app until iOS 4.2 public version is released which is due in this month.
It is highly recommended that you save the iOS 4.1 SHSH Blobs before the public release of iOS 4.2 to get the untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2. Apple has already rolled out the iOS 4.2 GM version and the final version is coming within few days after which Apple will not sign the old firmware.
Windows version of Pwnage Tool is expected to be released soon as the renowned developers have confirmed the release through different sources.
The secret revealed when MuscleNerd replied to iH8sn0w’s tweets. The latter was not happy because iPhone Dev Team released Redsnow 0.9.6 b2 with pwned DFU mode for Windows users that allows Win users to restore the iDevice to a custom cooked iOS firmware.
iPhone Dev Team has finally released Redsnow 0.9.6b2 with many new features for both Windows and Mac users. The new version of Redsnow uses the Geohots’s limera1n exploit to jailbreak all idevices (iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 3G, iPod Touch 4G/3G/2G Non MC models only and iPad) on latest public iOS version.
The new features in Redsn0w 0.9.6 B2 are pwned DFU mode that allows users to restore the iPhone to custom cooked firmware on Windows, custom bootlogos for iPhone 3GS owners with old bootrom and tethered boot.
MuscleNerd has just tweeted that upcoming Redsnow, possibly Redsnow v0.9.7, will offer a new pwned-DFU mode based on Geohot’s limerain exploit.
This new mode will enable all the windows users to restore the custom iOS IPWS firmware. It means it will work just like the PwnageTool which does the same type of job on Mac machines (but PwnageTool also cooks the custom iOS firmware).
iOS 4.2 jailbreak on iPad has been confirmed by iH8sn0w but currently on beta version because iOS 4.2 public version is not available yet and will be released in November.
You can see the screenshot of iPad as a proof in which the device is rooted using the Mobile Terminal App, a clear indication of jailbreak.
Error 1600 is reported by many users who tried to restore the custom iOS 4.1 firmware cooked with PwnageTool. As you know PwnageTool lets you to install the latest iOS firmware without changing / updating the baseband and if you don’t rely on unlock, the best solution to get rid of error 1600 is to use the other available jailbreak tools like Redsnow, Greenpoison and Limera1n.
iPhone Dev Team remained always reluctant to release the source code of jailbreak softwares for iDevices mainly due to piracy issues. The main threat of open source is that the so-called hackers and developers repack the source code and sell the softwares with their own names.
However, MuscleNerd, a key member of iPhone Dev Team, has just replied to @chpwn’s tweet that Redsnow will be open source soon.
Apple TV 2G jailbreak using PwnageTool 4.1.2 is almost similar to any iPhone jailbreak with PwnageBundle. The only major difference is that you have to use iOS 4.1 specific for Apple TV instead of iPhone or iPod iOS.
We have already shared the complete tutorial to jailbreak any idevice using pwnagetool in detail here, but we are going to share the procedure again skipping those steps which are not needed in Apple TV 2G jailbreak.
PwnageTool 4.1.2 has been released by iPhone Dev Team to jailbreak iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 4G/3G, and iPad (firmware 3.2.2). This new version brings some bug fixes faced by OS X 10.5.x users.
Users who are having any cydia errors will have to re-download the Pwnage Bundle and run it again.
