The recently released Apple’s iOS 5.1.1 firmware includes only bug fixes and various other improvements. There are no new features added in this version. Those users who have accidentally updated their devices, as i0nic’s girl friend updated his iPad while he was sleeping, they can safely downgrade to any iOS firmware using this guide. However, this guide is for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, and iPod Touch devices only. The owners of iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iPad 3 are unlucky because they can not downgrade iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 5.0.1 / 5.0 version for now.
Requirements:
- iOS .iPSW file which you are downgrading to
- SHSH Blobs and APTicket for iOS 5.0.1 / iOS 5.0
- iFaith
Guide:
Step 1: Download and launch iFaith software from iH8sn0w’s website. This software runs on Windows OS only.
Step 2: Click on Build “signed IPSW with Blobs option.
Step 3: At this stage, browse to the place where you have saved the SHSH blobs for iOS which you want to install on your device.
Step 4: Now browse for the iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.0.1 depending which SHSH blobs you selected in above step.
Step 5: After iFaith has successfully created the custom iOS file, go back to the main page and select “Use DFU Pwner (iREB) option.
Step 6: Follow the instructions of iFaith to put your device into Pwned DFU mode.
Step 7: Once the device is in Pwned DFU mode, close iFaith and launch iTunes.
Step 8: While keeping pressed the “alt (option)” key on Mac or “Shift” key on Windows keyboard, click the Restore button on iTunes.
Step 9: Let iTunes finish the restore process. If you face any problem or error, make it sure you have successfully pointed your computer to Cydia servers instead of Apple’s servers.
If your device reboots without any error and show the welcome message, you have successfully downgraded it to iOS 5.0.1 / 5.0.
