Downgrade iOS 5.1.1 on i Phone 4S and iPad 3 with Redsn0w 0.9.11 B2

How to Downgrade iPhone 4S / iPad 3 iOS 5.1.1 – Yesterday we received a new update of Redsn0w from iPhone Dev Fellows which allows us to install the iOS 5.0.1 on those devices that have been updated to iOS 5.1.1. The main purpose of this downgrade is to get the untethered jailbreak back on A5-chip based device.

Few days ago Apple released a new iOS firmware and the users who have accidentally or intentionally upgraded their iPhone 4S/iPad 3 from iOS 5.0.1 to iOS 5.1.1 version lost the untethered jailbreak. Since there is no new features in this latest release, they can safely downgrade to previous jailbreakable firmware to get the untethered jailbreak provided they have saved SHSH blobs for the firmware they are downgrading to.

Requirements:

Important: This downgrade process involves two steps. First it upgrades the device to iOS 5.1.1 and later downgrades to iOS 5.0.1. In the meanwhile it also updates the baseband. So, the users who are running ultrasn0w based unlock on their iPhone 4S should not use this method. SAM based unlock are not affected by this downgrade (baseband upgrade).

Here is how you can perform the downgrade process:

Step 1: Download Redsn0w 0.9.11 b2 and unzip it.

Step 2: Get iOS 5.1.1 and iOS 5.0.1 iPSW files on your computer.

Step 3: Put your device into DFU mode.

Step 4: Launch Redsn0w and click on “Extras”.

Step 5: Go to “Even More -> Restore”.

Step 6: Click “iPSW” and browse to the iPSW file which you want to restore on your device. After you have selected iOS 5.0.1, redsn0w will ask for iOS 5.1.1. Point it to iOS 5.1.1 too.

Step 7: Now add the blobs to this firmware by selecting the “Remote” option first. If Redsn0w doesn’t find the blobs remotely, point it to locally saved SHSH blobs.

Step 8: After verifying the blobs, Redsn0w will downgrade iPhone 4S / iPad 2/iPad 3 to iOS 5.0.1.

After you get the message of successful restore, connect your device with iTune to activate it. Now again relaunch Redsnow and select the “Jailbreak” option to achieve the untethered jailbreak on your device.

Note: Users having iPhone 4/ iPad 1 / iPhone 3GS will have to follow this guide to downgrade their devices to any previous iOS version.
