An unofficial news is spreading that Apple has bought all the shares of a Swedish Company “Polar Rose” which is very famous in face recognition. Although iPhoto has already got the feature of face recognition, but it seems Apple wants to bring improvement in this technology and to introduce it in some other apps.
Norwegian Mac Site Mac1, where the news was made public, says (via Google Translation):
The Malmö-based company specializes in developing technology which makes facial recognition, not unlike what Apple already has and uses iPhoto for Mac OS X. Through sophisticated algorithms, manages the software of the Arctic Rose to recognize faces in images and the company offers three different products using this solution. Two of the (Face Cloud and FaceLib) them seem to be very interesting for Apple.
Polar Rose also had an android app for face recognition, but we don’t think Apple will continue that project.
Here is the video showing the app “Recognizr” from Polar Rose which saves the information more quickly and links it to social sites.
