Facebook has finally launched the much awaited video calling for its users. Facebook video calling will be powered by Skype and it will be available for all Facebook users. To activate video calling on Facebook, simply visit this page and click on Get Started. After that you will see a new “video” icon when you click on your online friend.
After you click on video icon, you are asked to download and save the Facebook Video Call Plugin. After the plugin is installed, you will see a video windows once your friend accepts your video calling offer.
Video chat has been around for years now, but it’s still not an everyday activity for most people. Sometimes it’s too difficult to set up, or the friends you want to talk to are on different services.
So a few months ago, we started working with Skype to bring video calling to Facebook. We built it right into chat, so all your conversations start from the same place. To call your friend, just click the video call button at the top of your chat window.
For those of us who have been working on this, it’s particularly exciting to bring video calling to over 750 million people. We’re making this available in over 70 different languages, so friends can stay in touch all over the world.
Video calling will be available to everyone over the next few weeks, but if you don’t want to wait, you can get it now.
Bring your conversations to life
Sometimes an emoticon just isn’t enough. With face-to-face video calling, now you can watch your friends smile, wink and LOL.
Call your friends right from Facebook
Just click the call button at the top of your friend’s profile or chat window — no need to launch new software. No answer? Leave a video message.
According to the Facebook officials they were already in contact with Skype to bring video calling to Facebook users from last six months. However, it seems the company hurried up to launch this feature after Google released Google+ which allows users to do group-video-chat in Hangout feature.
Now it’s up to you to decide which company is providing the best video chat feature in their social networks. Please leave your comments below.
