If you are following the update, you already know that the latest build of Redsn0w brings a new feature called “DFU IPSW” which allows the users to put their devices into DFU mode without pressing the home/sleep buttons. This feature is also helpful for novices who don’t know how to enter DFU mode though the required buttons are still intact on their iPhone, iPad and iPod devices.
Normally we have to follow these steps to enter DFU mode:
- Hold down the Power button for 3 seconds.
- Without releasing the Power button, hold down the Home button too. Keep pressed both button for 10 seconds.
- Now Release the Power button but keep pressed the Home button for 20 more seconds.
However, if the Power or home button is not functioning properly, you can’t get the desired result. Redsn0w 0.9.14 b2 will come in handy. DFU iPSW feature in this new version of Redsn0w actually creates a new custom iPSW file which puts the device into DFU mode just after restore process completes. The resulted iPSW file should be installed on iPhone without needing any hack or pwnage mode. But if your iPhone requires any hack or pwnage state for fresh iOS restore, you shouldn’t try this method. The official update gives us a clear description of this feature:
We’ve gotten a lot of feedback from users who can’t launch a DFU ramdisk because their iPhone home/power buttons are broken or intermittent. We’ve added a new redsn0w feature that lets you enter DFU mode as long as your phone is healthy enough to restore to a normal, everyday IPSW. You don’t need to be already jailbroken to use this method.
How to Get DFU Mode If Home or Power Button is Broken?
Step 1: First of all download the latest Redsn0w 0.9.14 b2.
Step 2: Download the iPSW file which you want to restore on your device.
Step 3: Launch Redsn0w, go to Extras -> Even More and click on DFU iPSW.
Step 4: Read the description carefully, and click on Ok button to browse to the file which you downloaded in step 2.
Step 5: Redsnow will load the file and start creating the custom iPSW file with built-in DFU mode.
Step 6: Once the process completes, you will be presented the location and filename of resulted iPSW file.
Now open iTunes and restore this new iPSW on your device just like any other firmware. But at the end of restore process, your device will get the DFU mode automatically. The screen of iPhone at this stage should be blank (black in color). Now you can jailbreak, install Cydia, run Absinthe or perform any other function which requires the DFU mode.
Cool Shit!
Yeah, it is. After jailbreak, just install Zephyr and you won’t need Home button any more.
