Yesterday Apple released a new beta version of iTunes 10.5 for developers. After digging into the code of iTunes 10.5 beta 9, two new iPhone 4S references are found. These new references clearly indicate that the iPhone 4S will be a dual mode phone, having the capability to work on both GSM and CDMA networks, 9to5mac reports.
However, the image linked with “iPhone 4S” is same used by the iTunes for the older CDMA iPhone 4. It is being speculated that Apple is using this image for iPhone 4S as a placeholder and that it will replace the image after it announces the next generation iPhone on October 4th.
So, this internal code of iTunes confirms, at least, one rumor that the next generation iPhone will be a “World” iPhone which will work on both types of networks, as rumored few weeks ago. It also confirms that iPhone 4 will be shipped in two colors: White iPhone 4S and Black iPhone 4S.
iPhone 4S name recently appeared on the cases from third party manufacturers and supposedly hit the Apple’s internal inventory system with the name of N95. The recent rumors have also suggested that iPhone 5 may end up being the 4S itself.
Let’s see what type of cat comes out of the bag on October 4th, the date of Apple’s next “Let’s talk iPhone” event.
