Jailbreak Apple TV 2G with PwnageTool on iOS 4.1

Apple TV 2G jailbreak using PwnageTool 4.1.2 is almost similar to any iPhone jailbreak with PwnageBundle. The only major difference is that you have to use iOS 4.1 specific for Apple TV instead of iPhone or iPod iOS.

We have already shared the complete tutorial to jailbreak any idevice using pwnagetool in detail here, but we are going to share the procedure again skipping those steps which are not needed in Apple TV 2G jailbreak.

Step 1: Download the latest PwnageTool 4.1.2 version and iOS 4.1 for your Apple TV (links at the bottom of this post).

Step 2: Download the latest version of iTunes and install it and reboot your PC.

Step 3: Launch PwnagTool and select AppleTV 2G and click the blue arrow to continue.

Step 4: PwnageTool will automatically detect the correct iOS firmware for your AppleTV. In case it doesn’t, browser for iPSW file (iOS 4.1 for AppleTV 2G).

Step 5. Now hit the Build button to cook the custom firmware and save it on your PC.

Step 6. Put your AppleTV 2G into DFU mode. For this purpose connect your Apple TV with microUSB and follow the onscreen instructions to get into DFU mode.

Step 7: After the Apple TV is in DFU mode, launch iTunes and click on your device in the sidebar of iTunes.

Step 8: To install the custom cooked firmware, press the Alt/Option key and click on “Restore” in iTunes.

Step 9: Now wait for few minutes until iTunes does its job. AppleTV 2G will reboot after it has been restored successfully.

  1. Got stopped during the RESTORE with a message from iTunes saying ” The Apple TV could not be restored. This device is not elegible for the requested build” Not sure WHAT I DID WRONG…. Can help ?
