A new patch for PwnageTool bundle is released. It fixes the broken Cydia and allows you to jailbreak iOS 4.2 on iPad. You can use this patch with the existing version of PwnageTool to cook the custom jailbreaked and hacktivated iOS 4.2 GM firmware for your iPad.
PwnageTool works on Mac machines only and the Widnows users will have to wait little longer for Snowbreeze 2.2 because the latest Snowbreeze version, which creates the custom firmware for Windows users, doesn’t support iOS 4.2.
Here is the step by step guide to jailbreak iOS 4.2 GM:
Step 1: Download the latest version of PwnageTool and place it on your desktop.
Step 2: Download the PwnageTool Patch for iPad iOS 4.2 and extract it on your desktop.
Step 3: Download iOS 4.2 and iTunes 10.1.
Step 4: Right click on PwnageTool file download in Step 1, and then click on “Show Package Contents”.
Step 5: Navigate to Contents/Resources/FirmwareBundles/ and paste iPad1,1_4.2_8C134b.bundle file, downloaded in Step 2, in this location. Now, simply close this folder.
Step 6: Put atvBundlePatcher.sh and Info.plist.patch in the same directory as PwnageTool.app (NOT inside the bundle). Run the script. If you do not run this patch, it will break sandboxing and in return MobileSafari will not run unless you do a tethered boot.
Step 7: Now run the PwnageTool and follow the instructions. If you don’t know how to use PwnageTool, head over to this post for complete step by step tutorial on PwnageTool.
Step 8: During the iOS 4.2 restoration process, make it sure that you put the iPad into DFU mode according to the instructions otherwise you will get 16xx errors. If you think that iPad is in proper DFU mode and you are getting the 1600, 1604, 16xx error, then you should give a try to iREB that bypasses all such errors.
