‘Root Access’ is to browse the system files of maemo device and it is normally not required for day to day operation. But you need it to install the themes because theme making software for Nokia N900 does not allow you to make the final theme files in .deb format which are installed without accessing the Root of your device.
Already discussed how you can update the firmware of your symbian mobiles like N97, 5800, N79 etc and different methods of hacking and debranding your symbian mobiles, but this time I am sharing the method to update the firmware/flash your maemo device like nokia N900, N800 etc.
I decided to write a post on how to identify the original and fake symbian N & E series Nokia mobiles due to a reason. Last week my friend came from Malaysia and brought a Nokia N96 for me. He does not know about Nokia mobiles. He called me that here Nokia N96 was very cheap.
I was astonished when I saw that phone. It took me two hours to believe that this one was not original but a fake nokia mobile.
As you know that Samsung i8910 Omnia HD is also a symbian mobile having Symbian OS v9.4 Series 60 rel. 5 operating system. I have already posted a trick to, but here are more tips and codes to play with your this mobile phone.
Many people think that Nokia N97 has got 32GB memory as phone memory, but it is not correct. Here the phone memory means where actually contacts, bookmarks, emails, messages, notes etc are stored.
If you keep installing some softwares and receiving emails in your phone memory, you will soon get low memory warnings on your Nokia N97, in fact on all mobiles.
There are currently two main ways to send and receive e-mail on the 5800: using the built-in Messaging application, or using web-based e-mail sites such as gmail.com. The first part of this tutorial will concentrate on using Messaging, and the second part will have a quick look at using webmail.
How much does e-mail cost on the 5800?
E-mail on the 5800 is free, but if you send or receive e-mail through a phone network internet connection, you may have to pay data transfer charges. Contact your phone network operator for more details of how much you have to pay for data, and ask them about flat rate plans which could make data use (such as e-mail, web browsing etc) a lot cheaper.
E-mail on the 5800 through Messaging
The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic’shandles text messages, but it can also be used to handle e-mail accounts too. It’s very VERY easy to set up an e-mail account in Messaging, all you need to know is your mailbox’s address and password.
Here’s a guide to the main elements of Messaging’s mailbox interface:
- How to set up your first e-mail account
1. From the main standby screen, press the white menu button.
2. Select “Messaging”.
3. Select “Mailbox – Create New”.
4. It asks if you want to define a mailbox, select “Yes”.
