Redsn0w 0.9.7 b2 Released To Fix Crashes of Native Apps

Redsn0w 0.9.7 b2 is now available to download. This update fixes some bugs that cause built-in app crashes. It also fixes the sudden close of task switcher.

It is to be noted that this untethered jailbreak software for iOS 4.2.1 is still under beta testing and only those volunteers who don’t need unltrasn0w unlock should try it.

Redsn0w 0.9.7 b2 jailbreaks (untethered) iPhone 4, iPad and iPod Touch 4G. iPhone 3GS New bootrom users will have to wait a little longer to get the untethered support.

The known issues in Redsn0w 0.9.7 beta 1 are:

  • Task switcher causes Springboard crash (temporary workaround is to use SBSettings process list)
  • iPod player only works on ipt4g right now
  • Bluetooth currently disabled due to sandbox problem

The first two issues/bugs have been fixed in second beta but bluetooth is still nonfunctional. Here is the official update from iPhone Dev Team’s blog:

This version should fix all the native app crashes (including Task switcher).  That’s the only change in from beta1….Bluetooth is still disabled.  If you had trouble using the usbmuxd in beta1, please wait until we incorporate that into redsn0w itself (i.e. don’t bother trying this beta2, just wait for the integration).

Download:

  • Download Redsn0w 0.9.7 beta 2 for Mac
  • Download for Window OS is Coming soon.

Note: Please test this after a fresh restore (otherwise it’s impossible to keep track of the variables involved). Select “Jailbreak Monte” to try out the untether.

The instructions to convert the tethered jailbreak to untethered on iPhone 4, iPad and iPod Touch 4G are same as mentioned in our previous post.
