Sony Releases Official Flash Tool Emma for Xperia Android Phones to Restore Stock Firmware

Sony releases its own flashing software for android based Xperia category mobile models. This flash tool is called Emma. Emma lets you restore the stock firmware on your device. It is available for download for the following devices.

  • Sony Xperia S
  • Sony Xperia arc
  • and Sony Xperia arc S

If have ever used custom firmware on your device, you know well that the true freedom comes when you install custom ROM. These custom packages let you perform some scary tasks on the device. However these task, sometimes, may lead to a non-resolving problem. In this situation you need to have the factory installed firmware and settings on to your device to get back all the normal functions.

How to Download and Install Emma:

Step 1: Download Emma tool from the official Sony site. Unzip it and place it on desktop or any other folder according to your ease.

Step 2: Now run Emma.exe file from the extracted folder. During the installation process, note down the installation path.

Step 3: Copy the Customization.ini file from Emma Zip to installation folder.

Default path in Windows 64 bit is: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony Mobile\Emma\”

Default path in Windows 32 bit is: “C:\Program Files\Sony Mobile\Emma\”

Now launch Emma tool from Start Menu to begin the flash process.

How to Flash Stock Firmware on Xperia:

Step 1: Turn off your mobile.

Step 2: Keeping pressed the flash key on your Xperia device, connect it to PC using a USB cable. Flash key varies from model to model.

  • For Xperia S press Volume down
  • Xperia arc – back
  • Xperia arc S – back

Step 3: Emma will recognise your device and enlist the available services automatically.

Step 4: Select the desired firmware (service) and click on Apple Service to start the process.

Once completed, disconnect your phone and restart it. First restart may take a little longer time due to initial set up process performed by the device.
