Earlier this week Microsoft released Windows Phone 7 Mango Beta 2 update for developers, meaning only those users who are registered with Dev Devices Program on Microsoft Connect can update their devices to this release. But thanks to hacking community which has found a workaround to install this Mango Beta 2 on WP 7 devices without needing any Develop Account.
The complete step by step procedure to update WP 7 to Mango is as follows.
Step 1: Download all the required files which you can find at the bottom of this post.
Step 2: Update your device to NoDo first before you apply Mango update. NoDo release is available for all users.
Step 3: Close Zune if it is running on your Windows PC and extract the “Updating Tool” in C: drive. Right click on update.bat and then select “Run as Administrator”. Make it sure that you have enough space on your C: drive (more than 5 GB) before running the update.bat file.
Step 4: Zune will automatically launch when this update finishes. Now check for update. If you see there is an update available, install it. Now re-check again and this time you will find “Windows Phone 7 Mango Build 7661” update, install it too.
Step 5: Install Zune which specifically made for Mango Update because this new version of Zune will detect your device. That’s all.
If you don’t like Mango or you feel its very buggy at this stage, you can downgrade your device to NoDo any time using this same tool.
- Remove the Zune version which is made specifically for Mango and install the stable Zune version.
- Run Restore.bat as administrator and follow the onscreen instructions.
