Such articles like this one, which only tell about the one half of the story and never have the exact timeline, may irritate the readers and those users who are anxiously waiting for iOS 5.1 jailbreak. But these articles are definitely a good source of hope for many users. The main purpose of these posts is to inform the jailbreak community that hackers and developers are not sleeping but still working on the jailbreak.
Today Pod2g informed his followers on twitter he has found two new vulnerabilities, 1 kernel land and the second root land.
He didn’t mention anything about the status and the use of these new exploits. Now the question here arises whether he will use these vulnerabilities for iOS 5.1 jailbreak or he’ll keep these ones secret for iOS 6 jailbreak. If we correlate this tweet with the previous ones it seems he’ll save these vulnerabilities to jailbreak iOS 6 because the already available exploits may be sufficient to break the Apple’s security wall for iOS 5.1.
But there is also possibility that he may use the root land exploit even in iOS 5.1 jailbreak as the root level exploits are very difficult to patch and in some case impossible. The popular example of root level exploit is limera1n which is developed by Geohot hacker and which is still available and due to which we can jailbreak any iOS on iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch models, though tethered jailreak in some cases.
Earlier this week pod2g posted a poll on his blog asking the users the users to help him decide whether he should release the jailbreak for iOS 5.1 or keep it secret for upcoming iOS 6 jailbreak. The most users cast their votes in favor of its release. Eve the popular iOS developer Chpwn recommended him to release the jailbreak because Apple might patch even the saved and unreleased exploits in iOS 6.
What do you say? Should he release the jailbreak as soon as possible or hold it off for iOS 6? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
